Menetou-Salon
Old records tell us that Menetou-Salon wine was one of the finest ornaments on the table of the great silversmith Jacques Coeur, who acquired the seigneury of Menetou in 1450. It is even said that when Agnès Sorel, favorite of Charles VII, came to rest at the Château, she particularly appreciated the charms of the "Clos de la Dame" wine. The Menetou-Salon vineyards, which have had a wine-growers' association since 1890, now cover 487 hectares.
Depending on the vintage, the Menetou-Salon harvest takes place between the last week of September and the second half of October. In the vineyards of the Centre-Loire region, 80% of the harvest is carried out mechanically, which has led to the modernization of the cellars where the grapes are received, so as to work as quickly as possible between harvesting and pressing. Of course, manual harvesting is still used, especially for red grapes. The Menetou-Salon appellation is particularly interesting when represented by estates of the quality of Domaine Henry Pellé.
